Working with others usually involves some give and take. Describe a time when you worked out an agreement with a peer/team member. What did you do?
Pink GAMEDAY T’s Initiative.
Situation:
Fall 2011, our student-athletes grouped together to fundraise and bring about awareness for breast cancer, as well to promote student body attendance at athletic events throughout the month of October.
Task:
This initiative required our group to create and design a t-shirt that would effectively promote the required awareness.
Action:
The original design which was first accepted by our group was nearing finalization for printing, however one person did not think this design was original enough to appeal to the mass of our campus. This required me being open to others ideas and listen to what exactly our group wanted to get done.
Results:
In doing the above, our group agreed on a new design that sold over 400 t-shirts at $6-10 a piece, raising thousands of dollars.
Tell me about a time when you had many/few opportunities for contribution in your work. how satisfied were you with that and why?
ACU Football.
Situation:
In transferring to play football at ACU, I expected to become the starting deep snapper after my first year within the program. The person ahead of me was a graduating senior, leaving myself with the opportunity to start.
Task:
My first year I not only asked what to do, but what more can I do? In doing so, I contributed to playing fullback as well as my duties as the back-up deep snapper. I did not see any playing time that year, however I became ready for what was to come.
Action:
Entering the 2010 season, after winning the starting deep snapper position in the spring, my performance was not at the level it had been and I was replaced by another teammate who we were incredibly close to in ability.
Result:
Despite being replaced and by again asking what more could I do for the team, I contributed to the team playing fullback having 1 catch for 9 yards in road win over Incarnate Word and being the back-up deep snapper. In the spring of 2010 I tore my ACL and lateral meniscus. Being able to recover in less than 4 1/2 months, I readied myself for the 2011 season to play the role of the back-up deep snapper my senior season. By preparing always at a high level and being ready as if I was the starter, vs. Eastern New Mexico my name was called upon. I performed in a way that kept the team moving forward, not skipping a beat – being perfect on all snaps that day.
